Obesity & Sleep Apnoea

At Heatley Medical and Skin Care Centre, we provide comprehensive assessment and evidence-based management of obesity and obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), helping patients improve their health, sleep quality, and overall wellbeing.

Obesity is a chronic medical condition that increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, fatty liver disease, arthritis, and sleep apnoea. Obstructive sleep apnoea occurs when the airway repeatedly collapses during sleep, leading to loud snoring, pauses in breathing, restless sleep, morning headaches, excessive daytime tiredness, poor concentration, and increased cardiovascular risk.

Our experienced team performs a comprehensive medical assessment, including weight and metabolic health evaluation, lifestyle assessment, and screening for obesity-related complications. Patients with symptoms suggestive of sleep apnoea may be referred for a Home Sleep Study to confirm the diagnosis and determine its severity.

Management is tailored to each individual and may include personalised weight management plans, nutrition and lifestyle counselling, exercise guidance, behavioural support, evidence-based weight-loss medications where appropriate, and treatment of associated medical conditions. For patients diagnosed with sleep apnoea, treatment may include weight reduction strategies, CPAP therapy, and ongoing monitoring to improve sleep quality and reduce long-term health risks.
