Female Contraception

At Heatley Medical and Skin Care Centre, we understand that every woman’s contraceptive needs are unique. Our team offers a wide range of safe, effective, and evidence-based contraception options, helping women choose the method that best suits their lifestyle, health needs, and reproductive plans.

Dr. Prakash Pattnaik has extensive experience in women’s health, holding Advanced DRANZCOG qualifications, FPAA certification in Sexual and Reproductive Health, and a specialist degree in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from India. He has also been actively involved in training and mentoring junior doctors in the insertion of Mirena® and Kyleena® through Bayer’s mentoring program across North Queensland.

Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARCs)

LARCs

LARCs are among the most effective forms of contraception available. They provide long-term pregnancy prevention while remaining fully reversible when fertility is desired.

Hormonal IUDs – Mirena® and Kyleena®

Hormonal intrauterine devices (IUDs) are small T-shaped devices inserted into the uterus. They release a low dose of levonorgestrel (a progesterone-like hormone) over several years.

Mirena®

Mirena provides contraception for up to 8 years (depending on indication and current guidelines).
